Bowling League News
The Wilmington Town Bowling League is in its 83rd consecutive year, which cannot be said of many Wilmington organizations. Council #4982 has had two teams, the Knights and the Columbians, in this league for 51 of these 83 years.
Five weeks into the 2012-13 season, we find the Knights tied for first place! They are off to a fast start to repeat as the winners of the first half of the season, as they did in the 2011-12 season. The Columbians are resting in fifth place 9 points behind the Knights.
The current averages for the Knights are: Sonny Mercurio 83.53, Ed Barrasso 88.08, Lou Perry 83.13, Bob Williams 83.83, Al Bland 81.25, and Bob Flynn 88.67. The Columbians averages are; Joe Keefe 86.82, Pat Vardaro 71.00, Jerry Murray 82.60, Dick Hayden 81.70, Ray Mercuri 97.83, and Al MacMullin 90.67.
In addition to these two teams, Brother Knight Gene Trout of the Boosters has an average of 98.27; and Bother Knight Bob McCarthy of the Townies has an average of 72.83.
The League bowls every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Candlewood Lanes in North Reading. The league bowls on a handicap basis so that everyone is on the same level and makes it very competitive. If you have an interest in bowling either full time or as a sub, feel free to call either Al MacMullin at (978)663-4209 or Dick Hayden at (978)658-3408.
